The Apple iMac G5 was the third re-design by Apple to replace the iMac G4 desktop computer in 2004. The iMac G5 was a flat slab containing a high quality LCD monitor and all other components such as CPU, Superdrive, were housed behind this monitor. The iMac G5 would initially utilize the PowerPC chip architecture which earlier iMac desktops used. The iMac G5 was available with 17" and 20" LCD screeens and a 1.6 / 1.8Ghz processor.The current Apple iMac now features an Intel Core Duo 2 processor, HD graphics, and a choice of a 20" or a 24" screen. While previous iMac models utilized a white polycarbonate enclosure as the iMac G5, the new generation iMac (Intel) has an enclosure shaped like the Apple Cinema Displays and some styling reminiscent of the iPhone. New iMac Intel desktop computers now offer upto a 2.8Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 processor and 4GB of Ram. The iMac has come along way in the last 10 or so years....
